Federal funding to support local community club
Lawn bowling veterans, social barefoot bowlers and families are set to benefit following the announcement today of funding for the Lane Cove Bowling and Recreation Club.
Member for North Sydney, Trent Zimmerman, said the federal government would provide $15,000 to contribute to the construction of a family-friendly outdoor area.
“The Lane Cove Bowling and Recreation Club provides an important community hub for so many people to meet, socialise and bowl and it is the only one servicing the Lane Cove area.”
“The club is in its 65th year of operation and they are attracting more families and young children and this grant will enable the construction of a new roof, providing an all-weather eating and recreation area,” he said.
Mr Zimmerman said club Chairman Greg Moon advised him that the club was aiming to cater for the growing number of young families in Lane Cove.
“I very pleased the new entertainment area will also offer protection from the strong westerly afternoon sun and I hope it helps in attracting more people to participate in bowls and the events held at the Club,” he said.
The federal government grant will be combined with commitments from the Lane Cove Bowling and Recreation Club.
The project will commence following final approval from Lane Cove Council.
The federal government grant was delivered through the Stronger Communities Programme.
