Boost for local sporting groups with federal funding for lights at Bedlam Bay Oval

  • April 15, 2016

Local sporting groups in Gladesville and Hunters Hill have received a boost today with the announcement of funding to construct lights at Bedlam Bay Oval.

Member for North Sydney, Trent Zimmerman, said the federal government would provide $20,000 to contribute to the construction of four light towers and lighting.

“Once the project is complete, this investment will enable hundreds of young people to train and play soccer and cricket at night time.”

Mr Zimmerman said there was a shortage of sporting fields in the area which provided suitable facilities for teams to train at night.

“As we head towards the winter months it becomes more and more apparent just how needed lights at Bedlam Bay Oval are.”

“I hope these new lights increase the number of kids participating in sport at Bedlam Oval and that it helps the Gladesville Ravens, and other community groups who use the oval, continue to attract new families to be a part of their important community,” he said.

The federal government grant will be combined with commitments from Hunters Hill Council and Gladesville Ravens Sports Club.

Following feedback from Hunters Hill Council, the project is expected to start in the second half of 2016

The federal government grant was delivered through the Stronger Communities Programme.
